Our dedicated, international team is building the first truly global distributed network of shipborne weather stations. Controller / Accountant 

Are you a financial whiz with a love for numbers? At OceanSync, we're all about data, and we're looking for an Accountant/Controller to help us navigate the financial seas of our business. 

In this role, you'll be the captain of our financial data, ensuring its accuracy and transforming it into actionable insights that guide our business strategy. You'll be responsible for collecting financial data from various sources, refining it, and presenting it in a comprehensible and meaningful way. The ideal candidate will be able to interpret this data and create comprehensive financial reports that can be shared with a diverse audience.

Our financial data encompasses various facets of our business, including revenue, expenses, cash flow, and other crucial financial indicators. This data is gathered from multiple sources and requires precise analysis and interpretation. Your primary responsibility as an Accountant/Controller will be to understand the narrative our financial data tells about our business performance.

You possess a unique ability to view situations from different perspectives, troubleshoot, debug, and devise solutions to complex financial problems. As a part of our dynamic team, you'll use your financial and analytical skills to drive growth and make a significant impact at OceanSync.

The Job Details: 

  • Planning, directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions.

  • Managing the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of consolidated business results

  • Coordinating and preparing internal and external financial statements

  • Providing management with information vital to the decision-making process

  • Assessing current accounting operations, offering recommendations for improvement and implementing new processes

  • Overseeing tax preparation/compliance and regulatory reporting

  • Payroll requirements from onboarding and ensuring accurate deductions

  • Assisting the team in applying for and reporting to various non-dilutive funding sources. 


Your Best Fit Must Haves: 

  • Effective communication skills – Communicate with internal and external clients to understand and define business needs and appropriate modelling techniques to provide analytical solutions; can translate data and also have a high proficiency in English verbal and written

  • Great interpersonal skills - Respect, patience, consideration, accountability

  • Team player - desire and willingness to be collaborative, innovative, flexible and with a sense of urgency 

  • Minimum of 5 years leading full cycle accounting experience at a small/mid-sized company

  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize work and proven ability to think creatively and solve problems

  • You have built and maintained a positive team culture that emphasizes productivity and professional satisfaction for team members

  • Comfortable with balancing the requirements of multiple stakeholder groups with competing priorities by leveraging varying expertise and availability of team members

  • You maintain a strong understanding of the details behind the figures

  • Experience in process orientation to allow for process/system improvements and effective review procedures of team’s work

  • Strong analytical and technology skills and an ability to leverage technology in a manner to optimize efficiency in all financial processes

  • Familiar with a Procurement process (POs)

  • Multi-currency environments

  • Previous experience working in a start-up environment is a plus
